There’s a lot to be said for working for a family owned business that has been around for 75+ years. Obviously, they have figured out how to make and keep this happening for a really long time. It may be family owned and we may bring in pumpkin bread and tomatoes from our gardens; but, don’t get us wrong, we work hard. We work smart. We don’t mess around. What we do can be dangerous and it leaves a very small margin for error. I say can be because we have an educated group of people who work together to put in place policies and procedures to keep everyone alive and safe while they work so we can punch out and go home to our families, and once in a while down to the VFW for a couple of beers - in one piece. We go home in the same condition we arrived. In 32 weeks we will be at 2 million man hours without a lost time accident and that doesn’t just happen. We have to work for that. We work as hard at being safe as we do making a quality machined complete casting.
In 75 years a lot has changed, but some things have not. The foundation of providing good hard working people with more than just employment, but a place they can believe in. A place where they know they can count on. In the two years that I have been working for Bremen Castings, there have been many changes. One is that BCI has built a wellness center. Employees are encouraged to visit the center for physicals and office visits they have neglected for years because of not wanting to take time off work. Now it’s just a walk across the street. It has proven to be a lifesaver to a couple of us and a convenience to all. Proving once again that health and safety is where it starts. When you’re healthy, feeling good and working hard for a company that works just as hard to make things better for you, it makes a difference. And that’s what we are about at Bremen Castings. We are the difference.
